The Brazil international played for about ten minutes in a São Paulo tournament but in doing so has risked the wrath of his coaches by potentially risking injury.

The team for which Júlio César turned out are known as ‘The Mustards’ and play in the fourth division of the São Paulo tournament known as the ‘Golden Boot’.

The 34-year-old played 90 minutes in Brazil’s 5-0 win over South Africa last week, making one particularly impressive one-handed save to keep a clean sheet.

He is expected to make his debut for Toronto when they face Seattle Sounders in the MLS on 15 March.

Coach of the Seleção, Luiz Felipe Scolari, was very matter of fact when asked about the incident.

“Júlio plays for which team? Toronto. So the person that needs to speak to him is the manager of Toronto. As I’ve said to you one hundred times, if I don’t have one player, I take another.”
