Brazil captain Thiago Silva has been named the Samba Gold winner for a third consecutive year, beating the likes of Bayern Munich defender Dante and Chelsea midfielder Oscar to the crown.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender won with 24.19% of the votes, with Dante second collecting 14.63% and Oscar third with 8.20%.

Nearly 100,000 users voted alongside eleven European and Brazilian journalists including the likes of Tim Vickery, Tancredi Palmeri and Andy Brassel. Several former national team players voted also.

The 2013 Samba Gold award was the sixth edition of the trophy and it is a title given to the best Brazilian player of the year based in Europe. Previous winners include Kaká, Luis Fabiano and Maicon.

Silva led PSG to the Ligue 1 title and captained Brazil to the Confederations Cup win, both these achievements helped him obtain this award.

The good form of the Seleção captain has continued in the 2013/14 season too as his team lead Ligue 1 by three points and have qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

The central defender will be presented with the Samba Gold Trophy next month in Paris.
