Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Júlio César is reportedly on the verge of returning to Serie A with a move to Fiorentina after Arsenal abandoned talks.

Napoli, Villarreal and the Gunners had all been strongly linked with a move for the Brazil international, who confirmed that he would leave Loftus Road following the R’s relegation to the Championship.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that César is almost certain to leave the club this summer and did not include the ‘keeper in his squad for QPR’s opening-day win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Napoli had been in advanced negotiations with the former Inter man but that deal collapsed due to his wage demands.

Fiorentina and Arsenal became the only real contenders for his signature, before the latter reportedly ended their interest in the last 24 hours.

This only leaves the Viola, who are thought to be working out the final details with the 33-year-old after QPR accepted a €3 million (£2.5m) offer.

The contract is believed to be between a one-year deal with an option for a second, or two-years at a lower salary.
