Fernandinho enjoyed an impressive cameo from the bench as a 1-0 win was enough for Manchester City to secure the Barclays Asia Cup against Sunderland.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk star came off the bench and showed glimpses of his talent in what was extremely poor conditions as the pitch turned into a mudbath.

Edin Dzeko struck early on in the ninth minute in what proved to be the game’s only goal as Sunderland struggled to cope with the Citizens’ attack.

The Bosnian striker pounced on a half-clearance by Wes Brown and struck a 25-yard half-volley past the flailing Vito Mannone in goal.

Tottenham seized third place with a six goal win over South China in the Hong Kong Tournament.
