Internacional emerged as winners in Thursday’s only Brasileirão clash as they came away from the Morumbi with a 1-0 victory.

Leandro Damião scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute as he latched onto a Jorge Henrique assist and struck home the winner against São Paulo.

It was a fiery clash between the two sides as no less than seven yellow cards were doled out as the referee struggled to keep the lid on the game.

But the result sees Inter go two points clear at top of the Brasileirão, albeit with a game in hand as the rest of the round will be played this weekend.

A win for early title rivals Botafogo, Coritiba and Cruzeiro could see Internacional toppled from their lofty position.

Two more games will be played on Saturday as Vasco da Gama take on Criciúma and Portuguesa welcomed Atlético Paranaense.
