Santos have signed a short-term sponsorship deal with Chinese car manufacturer Chery, whose brand will appear on the club’s shirt for the next three rounds of the Campeonato Paulista.
The two parties announced the “taster” sponsorship on Tuesday morning, with a view to a longer-term partnership if successful.
The club had been without a main shirt sponsor this season following the expiry of their previous long-term sponsorship with Banco BMG at the end of the 2012 season.
This new deal will, at least, bring in some extra revenue for the Vila Belmiro side in the near future.
“Santos have a tradition of being the gateway for some brands to Brazilian football, and with Chery this may be another one of those moments,” Armenio Neto, marketing manager of Santos, said. “We hope that our partnership is very positive for everyone.”
His thoughts were echoed by the marketing manager of Chery, Carlos Eduardo Lourenço, who added: “From the results of this ‘taster’ sponsorship, we will extend the action set up for a full season.”
