Grêmio unveiled their new signings Adriano and Welliton on Thursday as they continue to improve their squad for a real attempt at winning the Copa Libertadores.

Adriano, 25, was out of contract with Santos and has moved to Grêmio on a free transfer, while Welliton, 26, has moved from Russian club Spartak Moscow on a yearlong loan, and both players spoke of what they will bring to the Porto Alegre club.

“At Spartak I played within the area, but my forte is on the wings,” he told reporters.

“There’s no problem though. I have played five years there. In 2009 and 2010, two years running, I was top scorer.

“My thought is this. I want to do a good job here, give joy to the fans and score goals.”

Adriano is just coming back from a long-term ankle injury but he has worked with Luxemburgo before and is happy with the new opportunity.

“My style of play is similar to that practiced in the south. Firm, strong marking, protect the defence.

“I appreciate this opportunity. I worked with Luxa in 2007 at Santos, and now I have a new opportunity.”

And according to president Fabio Koff, these two players will not be the last to arrive at the Arena this season as Grêmio are still on the search for a new left back.
