In a game that was crucial for the relegation battle, Atlético-GO recorded a 1-0 victory over Sport at Estádio Ilha do Retiro on Monday night in a game that ended the 22nd round of the Brasileirão.

Janderson, after a deadly counterattack, scored the only goal of the game and secured and important three points for his side that ended their run of five games without a win in the Brasileirão. On the other hand, the defeat condemned Sport to another poor outing that leaves them just five points above the relegation zone.

It was a game where Vasco dominated possession but their failure to be clinical in front of goal cost them.

Despite seeing only 37% of the ball, it was Atlético-GO who had better chances in the game and it was no surprise they eventually won the game.

The play that defined the match came out in the 61st minute of the game when Atlético-GO had the rebound at the entrance of the area and pulled a very fast counterattack. Zé Roberto loaded the ball into the attacking midfield and sent Janderson in with the pass. The striker then unleashed a left-handed shot to beat Luan Polli and decide the game.

Prior to this game, Atlético-GO were in the relegation zone picture but they have now won their first game with coach Marcelo Cabo and move up to 27 points in 12th place. Sport remains with 25 points and dropped to 15th place. They are now just a point above the relegation zone.

The two clubs return to the field this coming Saturday. Atlético-GO receives Inter at 9:00 pm at Antônio Accioly while Sport visits Santos at Vila Belmiro in an earlier fixture.
