The U20 FIFA World Cup 2023 is well underway and some prospects are already giving a lot to talk about. Marcos Leonardo, for instance, is on pace to win the Golden Boot following an electric start to the tournament.

With three goals to his name in just two games, the Santos striker is carrying Brazil’s aspirations in Argentina. The 20-year-old bagged a brace in the 3-2 loss to Italy in the opening game, before adding another goal to his tally in the commanding, 6-0 win over the Dominican Republic.

Marcos Leonardo shines early in the U20 World Cup

Marcos Leonardo must be enjoying this great start to the competition, since he pushed hard to be part of it. Santos didn’t let him join the Brazilian squad for the U20 South American championship in January, but he wouldn’t miss the U20 World Cup for anything in the world.

But the job is far from done for Brazil, who will face Nigeria in a six-pointer on Saturday, May 27. Hopefully, Marcos Leonardo comes up with another great performance to help Ramon Menezes’s side reach the round of 16.
