Among the 23 players seeking the first star for the Brazilian National Team, eight are 30 years old or older. This demonstrates that the Brazilian team has the trump card of the experience in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Marta is the first in this regard, aged 37, followed by Mônica (36), Tamires (35), Bárbara (34), Rafaelle (32), Debinha (31) and Luana and Andressa Alves, both aged 30.

The average age of the team is 27.5 years old, repeating the mark of the 2019 World Cup, the highest registered by the Canarinha in the nine editions of the competition.

After the victory against Panama, by 4 to 0, on Monday (24), full-back Tamires valued the importance of maturity in the group.

“When an athlete loses focus a little bit, which is natural for human beings, we go there and pull it back. Because we need everyone very focused. That’s it. We have to pass on this joy and this experience to the girls. Leave this selection lightly, but with a lot of responsibility”, said the Corinthians player.

On Saturday, the team will play its second match at the World Cup. The team commanded by Pia Sundhage will face France, in Brisbane.

Brazil, however, does not have the highest average age in the World Cup. Champion in the last Cup, the United States team, for example, has an average of 28.2 years.
