Tite, former coach of the Brazilian team between 2016 and 2022, sparked controversy in Brazil by comparing the legal case of Daniel Alves to that of Neymar a few years ago.

In February 2024, Daniel Alves was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for rape by the Barcelona court. This conviction ruined the image of the 40-year-old defender, who was nevertheless legendary at FC Barcelona where he played for 8 seasons. Asked about this case, Tite saw fit to draw a parallel with the story of Neymar in 2019. He had been accused of similar facts before being quickly exonerated thanks to recordings proving that it was a setup.

This comparison angered many Brazilian journalists. According to them, Tite demonstrates a lack of knowledge on a subject as serious as rape. One of them, André Rizek, journalist for the media O Globo, denounced a “disservice rendered to society” by a personality admired for his righteousness. He criticized him for not finding out more about the facts before speaking out.
