In what an interesting encounter, the only goal of the game came by defender Gil in the 38th minute and proved to be the difference at the end of the day.

The game started at a quick with Willian hitting the Corinthians post only after three minutes. Moments later, Ron also took his shot from range but Cassio was well up to the task. Corinthians made their response through an attack by Everaldo. Both sides continued to throw series of attacks at each other until the Alvinegro outfit opened the scoring via a corner kick. Gil found himself unmarked and was able to slot home.

Palmeiras had lots of other chances and mostly dominated the game but Cassio proved to be an obstacle throughout the game.

With the result, Palmeiras remain in second place in Group B of Paulistão with 19 points. Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team misses the opportunity to overtake Santo André, leader of the group, with 20. Corinthians find themselves in third position of Group D, with 14 points. As it stands, Tiago Nunes’ team is far from a possible relegation in the state tournament.

Now, Tiago Nunes’ team will have to hope Guarani suffer a defeat in their last round as they continue dreaming of a place in the quarterfinals of the State.

On the other hand, even with the loss, Palmeiras qualify to the next round regardless due to Ponte Preta’s victory over Novorizontino a little earlier before their own game.
