Brazil coach Tite says that the 2022 World Cup is the Seleção’s biggest priority for the next few years, with the Copa América an ‘intermediate goal.’

Brazil were victors at last year’s Copa América, but Tite says that Qatar 2022 is the most pressing priority in an interview with France Football.

“In Brazil, the World Cup is bigger than anything and 2022 is already on everyone’s mind. That is the priority. All my energy and attention is focused on this.

“This time, the qualifiers and the next Copa America are intermediate goals. Until then, we will continue to work and progress, step by step.”

The coach also said that he is experimenting with his defence ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

“Before the last two games, I gathered Marquinhos and Thiago Silva, the two defenders, and Militão, to explain what I wanted to do.

“I said to Marqui and Thiago: ‘Militao needs time to play, it’s in the team’s interest to have as many high-performance players as possible. He will play both games and, each of you, only one.

“They didn’t like it very much, but they know that they are dealing with an honest coach, who does what he says. Everything between us is clear.”
