Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli insists he and his Gunners teammates are doing their best to stay in shape at home while lockdown continues in the UK.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the sporting calendar to a stand still and Arsenal, like many clubs, have shut down their training ground.

Martinelli says he and his teammates miss the day-to-day contact of training but understand the gravity of the situation.

“It is a very complicated situation for everyone, and we have been doing what we can at home to keep in shape,” he said.

“It is not the same thing as daily training at the club, obviously, but we do our best to reduce problems. I do physical activity every day so that, when I do return to training, I can be as prepared as possible.

“We talk a lot on the phone, messages and stuff. Everyone is in the same boat, and aware that we need to do our part.

“Of course, it is very bad not training, playing — we miss the day-to-day with the team-mates — but this is a time to take precautions and everyone’s health is the most important now.”
