CBF Suspends Competitions Due To COVID-19 Threat
The CBF (Brazilian FA) has taken the decision to suspend all of its competitions as from today in response to the global Coronavirus pandemic.
State championship matches went ahead this weekend, albeit behind closed doors. But the CBF on Sunday confirmed all competitions under its auspices will be suspended indefinitely.
This will include the Copa do Brasil, Campeonatos Brasileiros Femininos A1 and A2, Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-17 e Copa do Brasil Sub-20.
“We know we have a responsibility to fight the spread of Coronavirus in Brazil,” said CBF president Rogerio Caboclo.
Currently, the Brasileirao season has not begun and isn’t scheduled to until the end of May, with state championships currently taking place.
The state championships are controlled and organised by regional federations and the decision to suspend will be left with individual federations.
