Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has urged Brazilian striker Joelinton to be more assertive in the penalty area.
The player joined the Magpies from Hoffenheim last summer for a fee of around £40m, but has, to date, only scored 1 goal in the Premier League.
He scored against Rochdale in the FA Cup but has not registered a Premier League strike since August.
Bruce is happy enough with the player’s performances and his unselfishness, but thinks he needs to develop a more ruthless streak in the area.
“I was pleased with his performance again today,” Bruce said in the wake of Newcastle’s 4-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
“He does a lot of unselfish work and we have to find a way to get him into the box more often.
“We have to find a way of scoring more and certainly for Jo to be more selfish. He is a great team player.”
