Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says that he is keen to keep Gabriel Martinelli grounded after the youngster burst onto the scene with a superb solo goal at Chelsea last week.

The goal has led to national acclaim with the 18-year old now into double figures for goals this season.

But Arteta is keen for the player to ignore the hype and continue working.

"I would like to talk about potential more than what it is at the moment, because for him there is still a long way to do that every three days against big teams and with the stature of this club, it is not fair on him [to say he has the club’s future in his hands].

"I want him to train with his head down every day…it’s not about one or two days." Arteta also said he would not interfere with the player’s decision as to whether he will represent Brazil or Italy internationally, given that he holds an Italian passport.

"I wouldn’t like to have that conversation with him unless he comes to me, because I don’t want to affect his feelings.

"It’s his choice and he knows better than me and his family and the people around him will be better than me to help him with that decision."
