Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz says he is missing his compatriot Wesley Moraes after the player’s cruciate ligament injury.

Wesley was injured in a recent victory over Burnley and will miss the remainder of the season. Luiz scored a vital equaliser against Watford on Wednesday evening.

The goal set Villa on their way to a dramatic stoppage time win over relegation rivals Watford. Luiz was sad not to be able to share the moment with Wesley.

“Wesley’s a great friend of mine. Not having him in the dressing room is the thing that upsets me most. My friend's happiness is my happiness.

“But I believe in God and God has a reason for everything.” Luiz says he sees signs of revival in Villa’s recent form and thanked the fans for their patience.

“I think this is a time for growth, as the manager said. We're fighting and getting points. The victory was for the fans because they are with us through thick and thin. I'm here to step up, I'm here to continue Aston Villa's history.”
