Brazilian Director of Football Alexandre Mattos has revealed that he has accepted a role with Championship side Reading.

Mattos still needs to apply for a work permit, which could take several months, so the move is unlikely to be formalised until the summer.

Mattos is credited with building Cruzeiro’s 2013 and 2014 league title winning teams, as well as Palmeiras’ 2016 and 2018 title winning teams.

The Brazilian will continue to work with Cruzeiro in the meantime as they plot life in Serie B having been relegated from the top flight for the first time in their history.

“Quality of life, all of these things, along with the work that will be done at Reading. Let’s interface with the other clubs in the group, it’s a huge challenge, but let’s go,” he told Superesportes.

“It’s the realisation of a dream.” Reading are currently managed by Mark Bowen, who had previously been in a Director of Football role with the club.
