Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes will miss the remainder of the season with a significant knee ligament injury the club have confirmed.

Wesley was on the score sheet in the Villains’ 2-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on New Year’s Day.

But soon after his goal he fell awkwardly under a challenge from Clarets centre-half Ben Mee and the club confirmed the Brazilian will miss the remainder of the season.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton was also injured during the game and the club published a statement on their website on Friday.

“The club can confirm that Tom Heaton and Wesley will miss the remainder of the season due to injury,” the statement read.

“The pair were injured during the second half of Wednesday’s 2-1 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor. It has since been confirmed that both players have suffered knee ligament damage.”
