Former Arsenal left-back André Santos has reflected on his time in North London in an interview with UOL.

The Brazilian spent just under 2 years with the Gunners from 2011 – 2013. He said he was happy, but sensed a lack of ambition at the club.

"I didn’t win a title there, but I felt very happy at Arsenal," he explained. "I lived well, trained well, but at Arsenal I didn’t see the ambition to win.

"When I am at a club, I want to lift a title but I could see that Arsenal did not have this ambition. They played for playing’s sake.

"When we lost, guys were already laughing on the bus [after the game]. It felt like going to the office. We went to training, then just went home."

Santos was criticised for swapping his shirt with former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie shortly after the Dutchman’s controversial transfer to Manchester United.

"I don’t regret it," Santos explained, "He never stopped being my friend. My culture is different to English culture, I am not obliged to have the same culture as them."
