Manchester City are sweating on the fitness of first choice goalkeeper Ederson after the player was substituted at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League.
The Brazilian felt discomfort in his calf during the first half and was withdrawn as a precaution with Sunday’s huge top of the table clash at Anfield in mind.
City currently trail Liverpool by 6 points at the top of the Premier League and know they cannot afford to lose more ground on Merseyside.
Ederson was replaced by Claudio Bravo at half-time, but things took a surreal twist when Bravo was sent off in the 88 th minute.
Right-back Kyle Walker took his place in goal and managed not to concede. However, City will hope that Ederson will recover in time for Sunday.
“It’s a muscular problem. It was a risk so we took him off as he was feeling it late in the first half. We don’t know,” City boss Pep Guardiola told the press post-match.
