Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is disappointed by the injury absence of Cameroonian centre-half Joel Matip for Tuesday night’s Champions League game against Genk.

Matip has been a revelation this season alongside Virgil van Dijk in defence, but he is out of the game against Genk with injury.

“We miss him. He helps a lot when he’s on the pitch. But I think Dejan is doing really good when he’s playing and we also have Joe, a top player and young with big potential.”

The Brazilian also reserved praise for his former back-up goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who will return to Anfield with his new team Genk.

“He’s a great guy who helped me a lot in my first season at Liverpool. He’s a great keeper who showed professionalism, working hard every day and was an important part of what we achieved last season.”

Alisson also took time to wish Everton midfielder Andre Gomes well after the Spaniard dislocated his ankle against Spurs on Sunday.

“I hope Andre comes back strong and as soon as possible. I had a serious injury at the start of the season and I know how difficult it is to accept you’ll be out for a long time. We know it can happen to anyone at any time.”
