Arsenal defender David Luiz paid tribute to young compatriot and Gunners teammate Gabriel Martinelli, calling him ‘a fighter.’
Martinelli has grabbed headlines with 7 goals in just 7 appearances for Arsenal, including a brace at Anfield in the Carabao Cup last week.
Martinelli arrived from Ituano during the summer, with Luiz signing from Chelsea later in the same window.
The two have struck up an immediate friendship and Luiz thinks the 18-year old has all of the ingredients to make it at the top level.
“He is a great player, not only because of the goals he scores, but because of how hard he works,” Luiz told ESPN Brasil.
“He is a real fighter, but he loves to play football too. It is great for Brazil to have a young player like this.”
Martinelli has been called into Brazil’s U-23 Olympic squad for the first time, though he trained with the first team ahead of Copa América in June.
