Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli revelled in his first start for Arsenal on Tuesday evening, after scoring twice in a 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest.

The 18-year old opened and closed the scoring in his first start for the club, where he played in a slightly unfamiliar centre-forward position.

Martinelli has spent his nascent career as a winger, but with Alex Lacazette injured and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang rested, Martinelli was asked to play more centrally.

“It’s a unique feeling,” said the 18 year old. “I have been constantly on the bench for the Premier League and knew that the chance to play could appear in the cups.

“I train very hard, with a lot of dedication and commitment so when chances appear, I can grab them with all my strength and know how to take advantage.”

Martinelli made his debut as a substitute in the opening day win at Newcastle, but the Forest cup tie represented his first start for the club.
