Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira paid tribute to the Old Trafford crowd following their thumping 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening day of the season.
United soundly defeated the Blues for Frank Lampard’s first game in charge. Pereira earned praise for an all-action performance.
He told the South China Morning Post that the supporters gave him the energy, "I was dead. But the crowd was so loud I felt I could run all day long.
"I walked around the pitch [when substituted] which was strange as I didn’t know we had to do that, but the crowd applauded me and that made me feel very proud.
"We had a good preseason but this was the league, it was the first game we"ve played at Old Trafford and we were playing a big opponent in Chelsea.
"The manager has told me that he has the confidence in me to play and that means so much to me. I wanted to show him that he was not wrong. Young players think like this."
