David Luiz Set for Shock Arsenal Switch
Chelsea centre-half David Luiz is set for a shock deadline day move to Arsenal in a move worth around £8m.
Reports surfaced on Wednesday that the Gunners had turned to Luiz to solve their centre- half crisis, with Laurent Koscielny forcing through a move to Bordeaux this summer.
Arsenal had been linked with Juventus’ Daniele Rugani and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, but appear to have been put off by the prices quoted.
Luiz apparently refused to train with Chelsea on Wednesday in an attempt to force through a move to North London.
There are suggestions that he had started to fall out with new boss Frank Lampard, explaining why the Blues are willing to let the Brazilian leave.
Luiz will travel to London Colney on Thursday for a medical ahead of this surprising deadline day move.
The player spent four years at Chelsea until leaving for Paris Saint Germain in 2013. He returned to Stamford Bridge in a £30m deal in the summer of 2016.
Luiz is represented by Kia Joorabchian, who has links with Gunners’ Technical Director Edu Gaspar going back to his time at Corinthians.
