Gabriel Jesus Admits Alisson Penalty Double Bluff
Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus admits that there was an extra layer of complication as he stepped up to despatch his side’s winning penalty in Sunday’s Community Shield win over Liverpool.
The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, leaving the tie to go to penalties. Jesus stepped up to score the decisive spot-kick against international teammate Alisson.
The pair won the Copa América together this summer, defeating Paraguay on penalties in the quarter-final.
Jesus said facing the goalkeeper he has spent the summer training with made things difficult psychologically.
“Alisson knows me. Even City staff came to ask me if training with him every day in the National Team meant he might know how I would take it.
“Alisson is a great goalkeeper. I didn't talk to him after the game, but I admire him a lot. Obviously he knew how I hit my penalty, but I also know how he jumps.
“I hit it my usual way and I am very happy to have scored. It is always great to start with a title. It was a great game at the beginning of the season.”
