36 year-old right-back Dani Alves has joined São Paulo in his native Brazil on a three year contract.

Alves captained his country to the Copa América this summer and the move represents a return to his home nation for the first time since leaving Bahia for Sevilla in 2002.

He has since played for Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain, winning 39 major trophies for club and country.

Alves’ PSG contract expired this summer and he weighed up a number of offers from European and Brazilian clubs.

However, the Seleção captain opted to play for São Paulo, the club he supported as a child. “I could have chosen any place to play,” he said in his unveiling video.

“But I chose to return to Brazil, to my country, to my people, to the club of my heart. It’s unreal, but I am here.”

São Paulo’s President Carlos Augusto said, “Dani Alves is the personification of what it is to be São Paulo.

“He is one of the most revered players in the world for his professionalism, dedication and his insatiable thirst for trophies and victories.” Alves will wear the number 10 shirt.
