Luigi Gaspar, the 15-year old son of Arsenal Technical Director Edu, has joined the Gunners academy. Luigi had played for Corinthians’ academy since the age of 7.
Edu was previously employed at Corinthians when Luigi joined the club at the age of 7. Luigi will now join Arsenal U-15s as part of his father’s move to the club.
Edu was Brazil’s Technical Director before taking up a role at the London club in July, a club he represented from 2000 – 2005 as a player.
As Brazil’s Technical Director, Edu was required to live in Rio while his family stayed in São Paulo. However, the whole family will move to London now, with Luigi joining Arsenal from Corinthians.
Luigi is an attacking midfielder. There is no fee involved as he is not old enough to sign professional forms.
In a message on Instagram, Luigi wrote, “Today I can say that it is one of the hardest days of my life and the hardest decision I have ever made…I don’t even know where to start writing this message.
“Today I inform you that I have left Corinthians, a club where I was raised as a person and as a man, where I spent most of my time in my life, totally dedicated to the club! 8 years of my life wearing this kit.
“So today, I inform everyone that this will be my last day as a player of this wonderful club, I wouldn’t say last because I’m sure I’ll always have the doors open here!”
