Everton boss Marco Silva says he feels vindicated by the decision to pay close to £50m for Richarlison from Watford last summer.

Silva took the player to Vicarage Road from Fluminense in Brazil before leaving for Everton. Silva then signed Richarlison at Everton for a huge fee.

But the Portuguese boss says he always felt the player was worth the money and that his judgement has been borne out by the player’s form.

"He had a fantastic season. It is good for me because we have a lot of good players to talk about. I prefer to talk about our team and squad but it was a fantastic season for Richarlison.

"I remember what many people said last summer when I took the decision to sign Richarlison with the support of our board and owner.

"It was not an easy deal. It was a big amount we paid to buy one player. But I knew him very well. I was with him for six months [at Watford] and for me that was enough to know his quality.

"It was really easy to convince him to work with us again and to join Everton," he told Everton’s official website.
