David Luiz Ready to be a Leader for Chelsea’s Young Guns

Chelsea defender David Luiz says he is ready to be an elder statesman for Chelsea’s crop of exciting young players.

The club is subject to a two window transfer ban currently and will look to rely on their crop of academy players to fill out the squad.

31-year old Luiz says he understands his role will be to help bring the young players on this season.

“We are a lucky team because we have so many young talents. The young players are incredible, they already have enough quality to play in this club.

“I have to play my role as an experienced player and try to help them, in addition to doing my job. When you are young you need to be worry about opening the door yourself, do not expect it to be open for you.

“Young people need to keep this mentality, because life is not easy. Every day a kid wants to be a football player, so they have to work hard to open that door. They have the talent and the potential, they just need to show it day after day.”
