Firmino Thriving ‘With No Position’ in Liverpool Attack
Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino says he has enjoyed the fluidity of Liverpool’s attack, which, in his eyes, gets the best from his own game.
Firmino operates as a false 9, with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah either side of him and the Brazilian is renowned for his outstanding work rate.
In an interview with Globo Esporte, Firmino says that the demands of modern football for a striker are well suited to his qualities.
“Football has changed a lot, the drive up there is getting bigger and bigger. I always liked to move around, open spaces and get into the game.
“I was never an attacker to wait for the ball to arrive. At Liverpool, I, Salah and Mané practically have no position and this mobility confuses markers.
“That is what happens in the seleção, too, with the many fast, technical and offensive players who are looking for the goal all the time.”
Firmino won the Champions League with Liverpool last season and the Copa América with Brazil in July.
