Brazil pair Gabriel Jesus and Alisson were the heroes as Brazil defeated Paraguay 4-3 on penalties in the Copa America quarter-final against Paraguay in Porto Alegre.

After a tense 0-0 draw, Brazil won the shootout thanks to Alisson’s early save and Gabriel Jesus calmly converting the winning penalty.

Jesus missed a spot kick in the 5-0 win over Peru in the group stage, but saud he did not allow that to affect his confidence.

“In the previous game unfortunately I could not score the penalty. I did not hit it my way. I live to score goals on the field, so the anxiety got in the way.

“Now I said I would take one and I was confident to strike it my way, be calm and cold and score the goal."

Meanwhile, Alisson was delighted to win on familiar soil in his home city in the Gremio Arena, even though he played for Gremio’s local rivals Internacional.

“My teammates played with a lot of conviction. It is a generation of young people with a lot of responsibility.

“It is a special taste for being in my city, no matter how much it is in the Arena of Gremio I received a special affection from both the colorados and the gremistas.

“The group is worthy of the result they had today. We played well under the circumstances. The main focus is to be champions.”
