Brazil winger Everton is especially delighted with the Seleção’s progression to the Copa América quarter-final, which will be played at Arena do Grêmio.

The Grêmio winger came into the side for the 5-0 thrashing of Peru ahead of David Neres and helped himself to his second goal of the tournament.

Now Brazil could play Argentina in the quarter-final on Everton’s home ground. “Not only for me, but for the group, who after this game will be well received there.

“Surely the Grêmio fans will support us a lot. Personally speaking, I am very happy. Being back there with the Seleção in a corner that I know by heart, I know every square meter of that pitch.

“I hope to be happy there, as we were happy here today.” Everton was especially happy with his own performance after being drafted into the starting line-up against Peru.

“Certainly one of my most special games. The crowd were shouting my name and I was able to respond well, but I hope to have more performances like this or even better.

“I just have to thank everyone, because not only with me, but with the younger ones, the guys give total confidence, total support.”

The Grêmio forward added that he and his teammates did not allow the previous match- a 0-0 draw with Venezuela- to hurt their confidence.

“At no point was there any suspicion in this group, I think we were able to make an excellent match without giving the opponent a chance. Doing what we did not do in the other game. Today we were very happy both in creation and in finishing.”
