Brazil left-back Filipe Luis has pleaded with the Brazil crowd not to get on his team’s back during the Copa América.

The players were booed off at half-time during their 3-0 victory over Bolivia in São Paulo and the atmosphere was again ungenerous as the Seleção drew 0-0 with Venezuela in Salvador.

At one point, the home crowd began ironically cheering Venezuela’s every pass as the home side struggled to break them down.

“Everyone has already been booed and applauded. Boos do not help when they are against us, shouting 'olé' for the opponent too. In the end, it’s Brazil that loses.

We can only reverse this situation with the fans on the field. Nobody left without sweat on their shirt. Everyone gave what they could, that the fans have to recognise.”

The Seleção face Peru in São Paulo on Saturday afternoon in their final group game, where a draw will be enough to qualify them.
