Manchester United midfielder Fred says his side are ‘still alive’ in their Champions League quarter-final tie with Barcelona, despite their 1-0 loss to the Spanish side at Old Trafford.

A Luke Shaw own goal was enough to separate the sides on the night and give Barca a valuable away goal, but Fred says the tie is far from over.

“We created a lot of scoring opportunities but unfortunately we couldn’t score,” the Brazilian told ESPN Brasil.

“But we are still alive, we will come to the Nou Camp to qualify. If we play a good game, we have every chance of going through.”

Ahead of next week’s second leg, Fred was bullish, “As I said, we had chances but didn’t take them.

“Barcelona are a difficult team to play, they like to keep the ball so you have to run a lot. Tactically we were very good, we just missed that goal.

“It was a great game, played very well between two great teams. The game was very open and we had chances, we have a chance to win it in Barcelona.”
