Chelsea defender David Luiz says there are plenty of positives to take for his team, despite a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

The Blues held City over 120 minutes, but succumbed on penalties, with Luiz missing the vital spot kick. However, the Brazilian says there was much to be enthused about.

“I think it was a great game, a special final for the fans, for everybody who was watching,” he told chelseafc.com.

“Two great teams, great coaches, great players and in the end penalties are penalties, everybody knows that, sometimes the luck is not on your side.

“I think we had a great plan, we played a good game. It is never easy to play against City, especially after the defeat like we had against them in the last game, so our team performance had personality, it was mature, intelligent to play in the moments we had to play and defend in the moments we had to defend.

“In the second half we were the better side than them but we did not score. It was a typical cup final, both teams were trying to win the game and I think it was a great show.”
