Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says that midfield lynchpin Fernandinho is set for a spell on the sidelines due to a muscular injury.

The Brazilian hobbled off towards the end of normal time in Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final, which City eventually won on penalties against Chelsea.

Having secured the League Cup, City are fighting on three fronts for the league, FA Cup and Champions League.

But they will have to fare without Fernandinho for a few weeks, one of Guardiola’s most trusted lieutenants.

“Being in four competitions is so demanding, so tough, we don't know where we're going to arrive,” said City boss Guardiola.

"Fernandinho and Laporte will be out for some weeks. Winning this game is good for the enthusiasm for the next games.

“But we are going to suffer for the next competitions, especially in the Champions League and Premier League.”
