‘I Dreamt About Martin Keown Shouting At Me’ Remembers Gilberto Silva
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva says that Martin Keown used to shout at him so often that he would go to sleep dreaming about it.
The two played together for 2 years during the Brazilian’s 6 year spell in North London, but Keown clearly left his mark on the World Cup winner.
“The funniest thing for me was to play with Martin Keown because he’d shout ‘Gilberto don’t go, stay, stay, stay.’”
“And after the game when I went to sleep I had Martin in my mind shouting at me!” he recalled in an interview with radio station Talksport.
“Once Martin came to me in the dressing room in the morning and said ‘you’re playing in the Premier League and we have played so many games, how come you haven’t had a yellow card? It’s not possible in the Premier League.’
“I said ‘Martin, I play the ball THEN I hit the player!” When asked if Keown was difficult to understand, Silva replied, “Ray Parlour was more difficult!”
