Inter Say Guardiola Effect Denied Them Services of Gabriel Jesus
Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio says that his team were within a whisker of signing Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus in January 2017.
After winning the Brasileirão with Palmeiras in 2016, the teenage prodigy became one of the hottest prospects in world football.
He was linked with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid- but ultimately chose Manchester City.
Inter say they were in the driving seat during negotiations, but the player’s desire to play under Pep Guardiola convinced him to go to England.
Ausilio told Sky Sport Italia, “We were negotiating with Gabriel Jesus for a month. Our offer was also better than Manchester City’s.
“Palmeiras preferred to sell him to us but the lad, through his agents, let us know that he preferred to play for Guardiola.”
