Luiz Accepts Criticism All Part of the Deal for a Defender
David Luiz says that criticism is an occupational hazard for a defender, after his man of the match performance against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Brazilian was criticised heavily for his role in the 3-1 defeat at Spurs last weekend, but was on top form, scoring the second goal, as the Blues beat Manchester City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Luiz refused to take the opportunity to fire a broadside at his critics after winning the Man of the Match award on Saturday.
“I know what it means to play for a big club," the 31-year-old told Chelsea TV. "Big clubs it's like that: if you win, everything is good. If you lose, it's your fault, especially defenders and goalkeepers.
“Strikers never lose games... we have to be honest and say that. We have to accept that in the right way, in an intelligent way. It was good to play against a fantastic team, keep the clean sheet and have a great game."
