Liverpool Defeat Was A Wake Up Call, Admits Thiago Silva
PSG captain Thiago Silva admits that his side’s 3-2 defeat in the Champions League at Anfield back in September was a turning point for his team. The Ligue 1 champions earned plenty of criticism for a poor display on Merseyside.
The teams meet again on Wednesday evening in a crucial group phase tie and the 34-year old said that his side’s performance in the reverse fixture led to a lot of soul searching among the group.
“I think this match made us change mentalities. We then showed more aggression and concentration, more possession of the ball. In the Champions League, the little details make the difference.
“In the first leg, conceding this goal at the end of the match was a shame because we had a good second period. We deserved to level to the score, before conceding this goal that hurt us. It will not be revenge, but a decisive match.
“A victory would put us in a good position. At these matches, you never know what can happen. As we have seen, Liverpool lost to Belgrade. Therefore, we will have to be well prepared.”
