Liverpool and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson says that his nomination for the 2018 Ballon D’Or is even more special to him because of the position he plays. A goalkeeper has never won the award, though Manuel Neuer was shortlisted for it back in 2015- finishing 3 rd .

Alisson was among 50 nominees for the 2018 award and he told the Liverpool website that he was incredibly proud to be nominated, even if he admits that he is an unlikely winner, ultimately.

“It was a great honour to be nominated; realistically as a goalkeeper it’s hard to be nominated and even harder to actually win it. I had a great season last season but I don’t think it was sufficient to win the Ballon d’Or!

“But I feel really honoured to have been nominated. My objective isn’t to achieve personal awards; my aim is to win titles with the club – last season with Roma, this season with Liverpool. I’m really happy with the way we’re working, this continuity is really important.”
