Guardiola Apologises to Gabriel Jesus over Mahrez Penalty
Manchester City Pep Guardiola has taken responsibility for Riyad Mahrez’s late penalty miss at Anfield on Sunday and apologised to Gabriel Jesus, who wanted to take the spot kick.
Mahrez blazed a late spot kick over the bar towards the end of the 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus had wanted to take the penalty.
With Sergio Aguero not on the pitch, Jesus and Mahrez had a long discussion before the kick, which Mahrez missed.
Guardiola has insisted the decision was his and apologised to Jesus, “During the training sessions every day I see Mahrez taking the penalties and it gave me a lot of confidence.
“It will be good experience for him, next time it will go in. Jesus wanted to (take it). I apologise. It was my decision.”
