Bernard Happy to Muck in from the Bench
Everton winger Bernard says he is happy to play a role from the substitutes’ bench while he works his way up to full fitness. The Brazilian missed pre-season as he negotiated a Bosman move to Merseyside.
The ex-Shakhtar man has gradually been playing more minutes from the bench in recent weeks, with some impressive cameos. Bernard is itching to start, but understands why boss Marco Silva is still holding him back.
“Of course I want to part of it,” he told Everton’s website. "This is a collective game, not an individual one. If the coach wants me to start or come on as a sub, I’m still going to give my all because it is a team game.
“Every player should be able to listen to the manager’s tactics. Each coach has a different approach, different methods but as players we need to be able to input what the coach asks for, so individually everyone gets better. But it is very clear the way he asks for his ideas to be implemented.”
