Brazil captain Neymar was not happy with the referee after the Seleção’s 5-0 win over El Salvador in Washington on Tuesday evening. Neymar opened the scoring with a penalty, but was later booked for diving in the penalty area.

The player says he feels as though he is a victim of his reputation, “I do not know what I have to do to, there's no way I can stand in a move like that. It's not just up to me, so much so that I did not say anything, I went on with my football.

“It is a lack of respect, not only with myself, but also with my teammates. Giving a yellow card is tricky. The guy comes here to referee a Brazilian national team match, which is a very big game and he does these antics … I think it is not correct.

“If he does not want to award the penalty, he does not have a problem, but the card is unnecessary.” Neymar played the full 90 minutes and confirmed that this was a prior agreement between him and the coach.

“It was a conversation we had, I want to be always on the pitch, and he decided that I would stay the 90 minutes on the pitch. I was happy.”
