Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez says that Robert Kenedy will learn from his nightmare game in the 0-0 draw with Cardiff City a fortnight ago.

The Brazilian was fortunate not to be sent off for an x-rated tackle in the first half, a half where he produced a 0% passing completion rate.

He went onto miss a stoppage time penalty, ensuring the match in South Wales finished a goalless draw. But Newcastle boss Benitez insists it will be a learning curve for the player.

“In terms of his quality, he’s very confident, so we were talking about that and the decisions he was making in the game, and it’s something that’s important for a young player to understand, to learn and then to move forward.

“He’s fine now, he’s been training well. It’s been a bad experience, but a good experience in the end.” Kenedy escaped FA censure for the horror challenge at Cardiff, since the referee awarded a foul.
