Barcelona Finalise Stunning £36m Malcom Transfer
Barcelona have announced the £36m signing of Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux. The player was en route to Rome to have a medical and finalise terms with Serie A side AS Roma, when Barcelona pounced.
The La Liga club contacted the player just as he was about to fly to Rome, where his mother was even waiting to meet him. However, Barcelona intercepted with a £36m offer which was accepted and the transfer was tied up inside 24 hours.
A statement on Barcelona’s website read, “FC Barcelona and Girondins de Bordeaux have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira. The operation will cost 41 million euros and 1 million in variables.
“The player will sign with the Club for the next five seasons, until the end of the 2022/23 season.” Malcom will undergo a medical today and will join his teammates on pre-season tour in the US on Thursday.
Barcelona were reportedly trying to tempt Chelsea into selling 29-year old Chelsea winger Willian, but turned their attentions to Malcom when the Premier League club knocked back a bid in the region of £55m for the Brazil winger.
