Brazil legend Ronaldo says that current coach Tite should stay with the Seleção, despite their 2-1 World Cup quarter-final loss to Belgium. Tite has revived the team’s fortunes since taking the job in 2016.

However, that did not translate into World Cup glory. Yet a contract extension has been tabled by the CBF which would keep him in the job until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Tite is mulling the offer over.

2002 World Cup winner Ronaldo hopes he accepts the offer, telling Globo, “It's a delicate moment for the Seleção, both politically and technically. We were beaten in the semi-final in Brazil. Here in the quarters but without shame.

“But we expect a lot more from the Seleção. Always much more. It is a time to do this planning, because the result is horrible despite not having played badly. The result is too bad for the national team.

“I believe Tite must remain. He's a sensational guy and he's doing a phenomenal job, but he has to continue this work." The pair worked together briefly at Corinthians at the tail end of Ronaldo’s playing career.
